Highlighting 2020s movements
In 1944 Elie Wiesel (author and holocaust survivor), along with his family, was taken to Auschwitz extermination camp. Nearly all of his family was killed while held and brutalized by Nazis. Wiesel gave a speech at the White House in 1999 titled The Perils of Indifference in which he emphasized the danger of apathy. This editorial project is based on that speech and inspired by the millions of people that this year bravely stepped forward to defend human dignity. I wanted to illustrate the importance of not being silent because if you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
